Match Report

CA Osasuna made Barcelona pay for their poor defending today as they played impressive attacking football to get a memorable win. Barcelona, who started without Yamal or Raphinha were shaky in their attack and Osasuna made them rue it.

The first goal came thanks to Bryan Zaragoza putting in a great cross that Ante Budimir headed home. Osasuna kept the momentum and doubled their lead soon through a brilliant Bryan Zaragoza moment. He won the ball and caught out Barca’s midfield. Zaragoza beat the offside trap and stunned everyone to get past Pena to crisply strike the ball into an empty net. It was 2-0 Osasuna as the halftime whistle was blown to the loud cheers of their home fans.

The second half began with Barcelona looking to make a come back into the match. Pau Victor provided Barcelona with the goal as Herrera fumbled a long-distance strike to give the away side hope. Alas, Barcelona’s efforts to equalise got sidelined when Budimir was tackled in his tracks by Dominguez inside the box and Osasuna won a penalty. Inaki Pena anticipated the right way but Budimir did enough to find the bottom corner. Scoreline read 3-1 for Osasuna.

It became FOUR for Osasuna when substitute Bretones won the ball from a pivoting subbed-in Yamal, then struck a long-distance shot from the outside of the box to beat Pena in the bottom right corner. Yamal quickly made amends by similarly scoring himself a few minutes later. Unfortunately, by then the game time was almost over with the scoreline reading 4-2.

Osasuna fans can enjoy a memorable victory tonight while Hansi Flick will have to face questions on why he chose to leave a few key players on the bench. Barcelona will have to quickly refocus with their Champions League match coming up mid-week. In La Liga, Real Madrid would be keen to win their match tomorrow to close their points gap to Barcelona.
