Akinwumi Adesina, the outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has signaled his interest in potentially running for Nigeria’s presidency. Adesina, who has played a pivotal role in Africa’s development for years, expressed his readiness to serve his country after concluding his tenure at the bank. The AfDB president shared his willingness to serve his country after completing his tenure at the bank, stating that he is open to serving in any capacity, whether globally, within Africa or specifically in Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Adesina reaffirmed his deep commitment to transforming lives. He shared that his greatest satisfaction comes from witnessing positive changes in people’s lives, whether he serves on the global stage, within Africa, or specifically in Nigeria. His passion for public service is rooted in his previous role as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Adesina also highlighted his strong national identity. Reflecting on a past opportunity to acquire U.S. citizenship, he firmly stated, “I cannot and will never trade my Nigerian passport for anything.” This declaration underscores his pride in his heritage and his unwavering dedication to advocating for the respect and advancement of Nigeria and its people.

The AfDB President, who has led the institution since 2015 and was re-elected for a second term in 2020, made it clear that his commitment to service is unwavering. “The only thing that makes me happy is seeing people’s lives transform. I will be available to serve in any capacity, anywhere, including Nigeria,” he affirmed, emphasizing his readiness to contribute wherever needed.

Adding a touch of humor and cultural reference, Adesina alluded to Nigerian artist Davido’s hit song “Unavailable.” He joked that in his case, he would modify the lyrics to say, “I am available, they will see me,” reinforcing his eagerness to step up and play a role in shaping Nigeria’s future.

With a career dedicated to development and transformation, Adesina’s statements resonate with those who hope to see a leader who is both experienced and passionately committed to the well-being of the Nigerian people.
