The Airport Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an alleged N48.5 million romance scam, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminal activities within Nigeria’s aviation environment.

The suspect, identified as Precious Onudhona, a native of Delta State, was arrested on February 2, 2026, following actionable intelligence received by the Command’s Anti-Fraud Unit. He was apprehended at the airport while attempting to board a flight to Asaba, Delta State.

According to police findings, the fraud scheme is estimated to involve N48,500,000, equivalent to approximately $35,000.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly became involved in fraudulent activities in 2023, after joining a syndicate engaged in romance-related scams. The group reportedly targeted unsuspecting victims through social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, using fabricated identities and deceptive narratives.

Investigators disclosed that Onudhona allegedly posed as “Travis Kevin,” a white American medical doctor, and created a fake banking domain that displayed fictitious account balances. Victims were allegedly persuaded to send funds with assurances of quick repayment.

The suspect reportedly claimed the money was needed for feeding and medical supplies after sustaining injuries in the line of duty, with payments requested through cryptocurrency channels.

The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, mnips, PhD, has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation to ensure all individuals linked to the fraud syndicate are identified and apprehended.
