AI revolution for iPhones? Apple integrates OpenAI’s ChatGPT, unveils ‘Apple Intelligence’

Apple announced on Monday a groundbreaking partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its devices, unveiling a new “Apple Intelligence” system.

This announcement, made by Apple CEO Tim Cook at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), marks a significant move by the company to enhance its AI capabilities and remain competitive in the tech industry.

Key Upgrades and Features

The collaboration will lead to a smarter Siri voice assistant and more personalised features across Apple devices. Siri will now be able to tap into ChatGPT’s vast knowledge and processing power, allowing it to handle more complex tasks and provide more nuanced responses to user queries.

Cook highlighted the “next big step” for Apple, which includes:

• Enhanced Siri: Siri will now be able to ask ChatGPT questions, but only with user permission, ensuring user control over AI interactions.
• No Subscription Required: Access to these new AI features will be free for Apple users.
• Privacy Focused: “Apple Intelligence” features will be powered by Apple’s own chips and will run locally on devices or on secure Apple cloud servers. This ensures that user data remains protected and doesn’t leave the user’s control.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, reassured users that their personal data would remain protected, saying, “It’s aware of your personal data without collecting your personal data.”
