Authorities in Ogun State have announced temporary movement restrictions for women around the Ijebu-Ode axis on July 1st and 2nd, 2025, due to the annual Agemo Festival.

Agemo Festival

The Agemo Festival is a revered traditional Ijebu event involving a masquerade procession across Ijebuland. The routes taken by the masquerade include the Epe-Ijebu ode, Isiwo-Ijebu ode, Ijebu Imusin-Ijebu Ode, Imodi-Mosan/ Odogbolu–Ijebu Ode route, among others.

During this period, women are strictly prohibited from using specific roads, especially the route, as the Agemo masquerades make their ceremonial procession to prevent them from sighting the Agemo Masquerade. The restriction is rooted in longstanding cultural and spiritual beliefs that consider it sacrilegious for women to witness the Agemo in transit.

All female residents and visitors in the affected areas are being advised to avoid the affected roads and plan their movements accordingly during the two-day period especially from 1pm.
