On Saturday, February 15, 2025, Lagos will host the highly anticipated Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which will result in an 8-hour road closure from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, the Lagos State Government has mapped out alternative routes for residents and travellers.

Road Closures and Route Diversions

Motorists will be restricted from accessing certain roads, particularly those that will be part of the marathon route from the National Stadium, Surulere, to Eko Atlantic. Key roads such as Ikorodu Road, Third Mainland Bridge, and Dolphin Road will be temporarily closed for the race.

Alternative Routes for Mainland to Island

  1. From Ikeja/Environs to Victoria Island: Use Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge, then head towards Outer Marina.
  2. From Badagry, Mile 2 to Victoria Island: Travel via Apapa/Orile and link Eko Bridge to Outer Marina.
  3. From Surulere to Victoria Island: Take the Iponri/Iganmu route to Eko Bridge and continue to Outer Marina.
  4. From Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Use Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road, then proceed through Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge.
  5. From Okota: Go through Mile 2/Orile, connect to Eko Bridge and Outer Marina.

For Island to Mainland Travelers

  1. Lagos Island to Mainland: Divert via Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge, and proceed to Iponri, Bode Thomas, or via Victoria Island through Independence Bridge to CMS Bridge.
  2. Third Mainland Bridge: While the bridge will remain closed to Island-bound traffic, it will still serve as a route for those heading to the Mainland.

The marathon’s route will span across notable Lagos landmarks such as Bourdillon Road, the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, and the Ahmadu Bello Way, ending at Eko Atlantic.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and explore public transport options. Traffic management officials will be stationed throughout the city to minimize disruptions and assist in smooth navigation.
