- African agriculture knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2020 to 2021, round 4
This programme supports collaborative projects addressing AgriFood and nutrition challenges in Africa. For a project to be admissible, it must be carried out by a UK knowledge base ( a UK-registered higher education or further education institution, research and technology organisation (RTO) or Catapult), an African business and an African knowledge base. The business and African knowledge base should be from any of these countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. The initiative also supports highly innovative projects from partners that have never worked together before as well as projects promoting diversity and inclusion.
Innovative ideas from any sector or discipline are welcome as long as they tackle poverty through the uptake of agricultural and food systems technology and innovation. 2. PIN’s Digital Rights And Inclusion Learning Lab Fellowship
Young African technology or social innovators, researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurs can apply for Paradigm Initiative’s Digital Rights and Inclusive Learning Lab (DRILL) fellowship. Applicants are required to discuss in brief their intended area of focus during the fellowship period. Chosen applicants will work with full-time Paradigm Initiative’s members for 9 months (March 01 2021- November 30 2021). 3. The Change Maker Seed Grant 2021
Young entrepreneurs between ages 18-35 years can apply for the Change Maker Seed Challenge launched by StartupXs. This initiative supports start-ups and social enterprises making use of innovative ideas and tools in providing solution to current issues being faced by their communities and the world. The Change Maker Seed Challenge will choose and grant one Change Maker $1000 seed fund. Application should be submitted in form of business proposals written in English Language. 4. Farmcrew Innovation Fund
Agritech start-ups in Nigeria and Africa with scalable capable of improving SMART Agriculture in Nigeria and Africa can apply for the Farmcrew Innovation Fund (FCIF). The FCIF will equip selected start-ups and with the right skills, exposure and resources to make their solutions marketable and profitable. 10 start-ups will be awarded an investment fund of up to $50,000. 6. Easy Solar secures $5m Series A Funding
West African energy start-up Easy Solar will expand its operations in Sierra Leone and Liberia after securing $5m Series A funding. This includes $3m in equity from global investor Acumen and FMO, Dutch entrepreneur development bank and a $2m in debt equity from TRINE (an investment platform for solar energy businesses). In both countries, Easy Solar will use the funding to expand its reach in places where majority of the population are off grid and also amplify its portfolio of products for existing customers. 7. Milango secures six-figure seed investment
Cairo-based community management solution provider, Milango has raised a six-figure seed investment in a round led by A15 (an entrepreneurial company that invests in digital products and technology brands).
